Box Office: ‘Kick’ has phenomenal pre-Eid opening

Kick
'Kick' starring Salman Khan & Jacqueline Fernandez

Produced and directed by Sajid Nadiadwala, Kick۪ was expected to keep the ticket windows busy this weekend and, on its first, BizAsia can confirm that it has done just that.

The film has opened just before Eid and is therefore inevitably going to rock the all-important box office as previous Salman Khan films that have released on an Eid weekend have done. The film has reached a very credible 70-75% occupancy on opening day, according to Box Office India, and some areas have reached 90% plus. The film is at an advantage somewhat as it has the whole weekend before the festival holiday takes place and therefore the next few days will be crucial as it will also allow families and pre-celebrations to happen at the cinema as audiences are expected to flock to see the film.

If the film sustains the weekend then it will be on par somewhat with last year۪s Chennai Express۪ and Dhoom 3۪, both of which released on a festival holiday.

Last week۪s Hate Story 2۪ has managed to cross the 20 crores mark but is not expected to achieve much more that a lifetime business of 25 crores. Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania۪ has also crossed 70 crores in its second week.
