Box Office: ‘Kai Po Che’ strikes gold; ‘Zila Ghaziabad’ proves plausible

Abhishek Kapoor’s ‘Kai Po Che’ and Anand Kumar’s ‘Zila Ghaziabad’ are both multi-starrers. However, they are very much from opposite ends of the spectrum. Whilst the former brings male-bonding and new age, youthful friendship back to the forefront with newbies as shoulder, the latter boasts well-known actors who have made an impact in the genre previously in an action-packed plot. Early reports of box office activity suggest that the two films are holding their own.

‘Kai Po Che’ which stars Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh and Raj Kumar Yadav, is seemingly strong in the shows during the day. The film is expected to see a big rise in audience numbers come the evening and also on the weekend. Having been heavily promoted beforehand and a buzz that even made Bollywood stars applaud, it seems Kapoor’s second outing as director is striking gold from the first day.

Similarly, ‘Zila Ghaziabad’ stars Arshad Warsi, Sanjay Dutt and Vivek Oberoi. It is doing well in single screens despite where being not quite as much importance being given to the promotions before the release. Whilst not doing so well in multiplexes, the movie seems to be holding well in the single screens and, once again, ticket windows are expected to be busy during the next few days.

‘Kai Po Che’ has also released internationally but ‘Zila Ghaziabad’ will see a limited release. One can hope that this is another week where two very different films show that diversity at the box office is what works – even if a given film hasn’t been promoted so much in the usual or favourable way.
