It has been proven in the last few years (primarily by the Khans) that a holiday release date puts their respective films at a good start. However, BizAsia has learnt that Farah Khan’s ‘Happy New Year’ and Ranbir Kapoor’s debut production ‘Jagga Jasoos’ may well be clashing at Diwali next year.
History will very much be repeating itself as Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor clashed in this same way in 2007 with their films ‘Om Shanti Om’ and ‘Saawariya’. It seems that all other holiday options have been locked by other movies but Diwali remains a possibility for both films. Incidentally, both Anurag Basu who is jointly producing and directing ‘Jagga Jasoos’ and Farah Khan are adamant that dates haven’t been decided upon yet.
According to Hindustan Times, Basu said, “I will keep my film ready for release by September next year. After that, it will be the producer۪s call to release it on Diwali or whenever they want. But the fact is that we haven۪t taken a call on the release date yet”.
Farah also stated, “If the trade people know more than Shah Rukh and me, let them only shoot the film. We haven۪t decided on the release date. Who knows, we might come before Diwali. Let us take the final call first”.
