Box Office: Khiladi 786۪ off to decent start at ticket windows

Khiladi 786۪, Akshay Kumar۪s fifth release of the year after Housefull 2۪, Rowdy Rathore۪, Joker۪ and OMG: Oh My God!۪ (of which three were huge hits), opened to fairly decent collections in India, but given that it opened at over 2000 screens the opening was not up to the mark.

The film took an 80% start at some screens in Northern India, but in the same circuit some of the Delhi multiplexes opened with just an abysmal 35% (source: Box Office India). Given Kumar۪s track record at the box office this year and the massy content of the film, a better start was expected for the comedy co-starring Himesh Reshammiya and Asin. The reviews of the film too are mixed, so it will have to rely heavily on word of mouth to make any kind of mark at ticket windows. On the plus side, the film still has the advantage of an open two week run before a hurricane called Dabangg 2۪ hits theatres on 21st December.

The Aamir-Rani-Kareena murder mystery Talaash۪ meanwhile, continues to do well and though not a huge hit (approx Rs. 65 crores in India), the film has found appreciation from multiplexes and has done especially well abroad. In the UK the film was 7th in the charts and earned a respectable 389,522 (source: The Guardian) in its first week.

The SRK-Katrina-Anushka starrer Jab Tak Hai Jaan۪ is now more or less coming to the end of its run, but still continues to do well abroad. Over the last week it added 78,321 (source: BFI) to its already impressive total and was still in the UK Top 20 nearly a month after its release.
