‘Bombay Velvet’ has been the talk of the town ever since it was announced. The name Ranbir Kapoor was all it took to start a frenzy. Anurag Kashyap’s choices, pairing Kapoor with Anushka Sharma, and roping in Karan Johar to debut in a negative role helped Kashyap built up quite the curiosity. Now, there are speculations that the film is a strong contender for the Cannes Film Festival, from May 13th-24th.

According to the Hindustan Times, Kashyap has been making all the right moves for the film to be eligible to make an appearance at the prestigious festival. The official selection will be announced in Paris, by April end. Cannes has a strict rule for the films chosen. They must be only premiered at the festival, and not the country of origin. ‘Bombay Velvet’ will be releasing on 15th May, after the festival opens.

If chosen, this will be the fourth of of Kashyap’s films to be screened at the festival, namely ‘Gangs of Wasseypur,’ (2012) ‘Bombay Talkies,’ (2013) and ‘Ugly’ (2014). This film is hugely awaited due to Kapoor’s limited appearances on the silver screen since his last film ‘Besharam’ (2014). He was last seen in a cameo appearance in ‘Roy,’ (2015) but his other two films, ‘Jagga Jasoos’ and ‘Tamasha’ are as awaited because of his pairings with Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone respectively.
