The Bombay High Court has defended ‘Udta Punjab’ in its hearing saying the film has a social message to “save people from drugs”.

The Indian Express reported the court questioning some of the cuts that were ordered by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). It did not accept that one of the scenes featuring a Punjab signboard was going to malign the Punjab state.

Justice S C Dharmadhikari was cited in the publication saying, It is our prerogative that the movie never praises drugs. It is still going to say that drugs are bad. The movie wants to save people from this and has not been made with a view to malign the state or its people.۝

The hearing has been adjourned until Monday. A decision will also be made on the film’s release then.
