Irani to play Kalmadi?

Best known for his many comical roles, actor Boman Irani – who is all geared up for his upcoming release ‘Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi’ – has been offered another exciting role. News has it that the actorhas beenapproached to characterise Indian politician and sports administrator Suresh Kalmadi in a film based on the Commonwealth Games.

Hindustan Timesreport Priya Singh Paul, Additional Director (Communications), Commonwealth Games Organisation Committee, stating, “Nobody talked about the event after it was over despite its success. The people who worked behind the scenes felt neglected rather than rewarded. A group of officials in the Organising Committee came together and decided to make a movie on the Games۪ success. The reason was to highlight the unsung heroes who put up the mega event.۝

There was speculation and controversy about India having spent billions of dollars on the Commonwealth Games when they are known to be one of the world poorest countries. Paul went on to explain how those who were a part of the production of the games did not receive the recognition they deserved and making a film will put all rumours to rest.

Paul alsoexplained the plans for the film, “We۪re planning to rope in prominent B-Town actors for the film, and are trying to get Boman Irani to play Suresh Kalmadi. We۪ll include cameos of real sportsmen as well, and plan to release it by next year in England or in Cannes.۝
