The Indian film industry doesn’t shy away from representing the gay community, and though the subject can be rather controversial, the cross-gender characters are more times than not, well appreciated. So it’s come to a surprise that as actor Bobby Darling is going through a sex change operation, his offers for films have lessened.
Known for films such as ‘Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahah’ (2004), ‘Apna Sapna Money Money’ (2006) and ‘Tom Dick and Harry’ (2007), Times of IndiareportedDarling stating how his decision for a sex change has backfired, “I got silicon implants done, but the surgery is only half-complete. My decision to change my sex backfired. I have played gay in so many films, but once the word spread that I have undergone a sex-change operation, filmmakers stopped approaching me. That’s when I realised that if I complete the procedure, Bobby Darling will die.”
Wanting to prevent this from happening, Darling has decided to stop the rest of the operations. He went onto say, “I may not be undergoing a sex-change operation but ideally I would still like to referred to as ‘she’ and not ‘he’. About film offers, yes I am working in Punjabi and Bhojpuri movies. I recently also shot an ad with my childhood crush, Sunny Deol.”
