BizAsia’s top 5 party tracks of 2013

Bollywood music albums in 2013 have had a set trend with most trying to deliver a big party song for clubs and weddings and a deep romantic number to tug on the heart strings. Thus the competition for the big party tune and romantic number has been quite fierce. There are very few other genre songs that would stand apart and not fall under these two genre heads but none successful and noticeable enough to mention.

So as we close in on the New Year parties around town, let۪s look at the biggest party tunes of 2013 first. This is perhaps the most difficult category as well considering we have had a revolution in 2013 in this category with one or two big numbers in every movie. Even the not so successful films at the box office managed to deliver on the big party tunes at least. All the music directors had a go at this and have tried to fuse different styles of music and done some big collaborations with the likes of Honey Singh to create some of the very famous party tunes this year that we all can think about.

We have accounted club tunes, remixes, item numbers and even wedding songs into this countdown for the top five party tracks of 2013. Although everyone will have their own favourites and preferences when it comes to this, we have based our ranking on songs that have had the maximum airplay on TV, radio, most requested in clubs and most talked about and viewed on social media platforms.

Chennai Express lungi dance

5 Lungi Dance Chennai Express۪ (2013) When you combine the genius of Vishal-Shekhar with Indian party music revolutionary Yo Yo Honey Singh on the music and vocal front, put King Khan in the video with gorgeous Deepika Padukone and then announce the song to be a tribute to the legendry Rajinikanth then you know before you have even heard it that this will be a superhit. What you really do not know is how big a hit۪!! Lungi Dance became a sensation overnight and evolved into a party favourite from north to the sound. The deep voice of Honey Singh in a slow rap style of composition is unique to this song with lyrics that define the iconic image of Rajinikanth is truly amazing for delivering a South Indian flavoured song. Very confidently the lyrics in the song boast Club mein jab yeh gaana bajega, dancefloor pe aana padega۪ and that is exactly what this song does. A true favourite of DJ۪s to get a party started!!

4 Lat Lag Gayi Race 2۪ (2013) Pritam effortlessly combined a romantic tune into a modern day club number making this perhaps one of the most loved songs of 2013. The amazing hook lines and catchy composition have got the song to be stuck in the head of every young or old person. Pictured with Saif Ali Khan and the sultry Jacqueline Fernandez dancing to this in a club this truly had to become a party hit for couples to swing to. Apart from the simple but unique composition what works really well in this song are the fantastic lyrics by Mayur Puri and the amazing vocals of Benny Dayal and Shalmali Kholgade. A truly brilliant song that is ageless and will not fade in its appeal even with passing years!

3 Badtameez Dil Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani۪ (2013) If Pritam is to get a feather in his hat for every time he makes a chartbuster tune then his hat would look like an entire species of birds on his head by now! With every song a superhit in this album, Badtameez Dil was the first to climb the popularity charts as soon it hit the TV music channels and radio. With the charming Ranbir Kapoor going wild in a wedding cocktail party with Deepika Padukone and Kalki Koechlin by his side. The super fun and crazy execution of the video made the song even more enjoyable adding to the success of the song making it a party favourite at wedding ceremonies and clubs alike. The song catches immediate attention thanks to the truly unique and gibberish lyrical start to a song ever thanks to the lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya making his true mark with this song. Once again the vocal delivery by Benny Dayal is truly extraordinary and stands out from the crop of singers in Bollywood. But all-in-all, hats off to Pritam for making this one of the most memorable songs of 2013.

2 Tooh Gori Tere Pyaar Mein۪ (2013) Although fairly recent with not many months to measure the success of this album, Tooh has become a massive hit across the board. Vishal-Shekhar set out to make a wedding song for a wedding scene in the movie, featuring Imran Khan and the Bollywood princess Kareena Kapoor Khan, and they deliver what turns out to be the biggest hit on the wedding scene ever! With the wedding scene crowded with item numbers, like Fevicol Se with Kapoor again, in the absence of proper wedding songs, there was a definite market gap for songs like this. A Punjabi word for the buttocks itself this song invites you to shake that booty as rightly put by the lyricist Anvita Dutt. Although the use of word Tooh caused a lot of controversy initially, it has now been accepted as a must play۪ song at all parties to get the Punjabi dance mood going. None other than the voice of Mika Singh can deliver that raw oomph required for a song like this and Mamta Sharma with Shruti Pathak and Vishal give him good company. This song can make even a 90 year old to get up and shake his booty!

1 Balam Pichkari Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani۪ (2013) Not often do you get a song that has two parts to it, the class of the simple vocals and lyrics as that for a high end club and the music of a street holi party. Pritam effortlessly combines these in Balam Pichkari making this the tune of the year for any and all events and parties. The song has musical definition with its amazing arrangement and with lyrical genius thanks to Amitabh Bhattacharya is mesmerising in every way. Vishal Dadlani۪s voice along with Shalmali Kholgade give this song personality like none other heard this year. Perfection in every aspect of the song really hit the right notes with the young to deliver a success formula that every music fan will bow down and dance to.

A standing ovation is suggested for Pritam for having three songs in our top party tunes list with each being so unique and different from others while being such foot stompers. Vishal-Shekhar do a brilliant job as well directing the other 2 songs not leaving any room for any of the other composers out there. Benny Dayal and Shalmali Kholgade manage to voice two songs each in our top five party dance tunes making them our hot favourite singers of 2013.

Katrina Kaif Dhoom 3 1

A number of other dance tunes made a mark on the party scenes across the year. Some truly do deserve a mention in our list.Party All Night from Boss۪ (2013) is a one of a kind mad tune that is definitive to this genre and a personal favourite of many. Title track from Besharam۪ (2013) is quite a tune too and manages to get everyone dancing where they are. Party On My Mind from Race 2۪ and Dhoom Machale Dhoom from the latest Dhoom 3۪ (2013) are typical dance tunes as well. Gandi Baat from R_Rajkumar۪ (2013), Ghagra from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani۪ and Tattad Tattad from Ram-Leela۪ (2013) are worth a mention in the street party songs as well. And how can be forget Dilliwali Girlfriend from Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani۪, Chingam Chabake and Dhat Teri Ki from Gori Tere Pyaar Mein۪ that are strong competitors in this category. 2013 has truly been the year for Bollywood dance music!
