BizAsia Valentine’s Day Special: No love like a first love

Over the years Bollywood films have tried to show the audiences what happens when people fall in love for the first time. The feeling when two people set eyes on each other for the very first time and the restlessness one feels when they can’t be with the one they love.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, BizAsiaLive.com will look back at ten songs that displayed the many experiences of the pehla pyar (first love).

Pehla pehla pyar hai from ‘Hum Aap Ke Hain Koun’ (1994)
It was one of the most romantic songs ever that saw Madhuri Dixit Nene and Salman Khan in a sweet romance. The iconic pink flowy dress worn by Dixit Nene and Khan in black trousers with a white vest dancing the night away, was a scene nobody could forget.

Khan played the adorable Prem who was besotted by the mischievous Nisha (Dixit Nene). This song has Prem answer Nisha’s question telling her what she means to him and his feelings for her.

S.P Balasubrahmanyam sang for Khan while Dev Kohli penned the lyrics for this gem of a song.

Pehli nazar mein from ‘Race’ (2008)
Atif Aslam’s vocals were resounding everywhere when this film first released. It was so popular at the time that it was even played at people’s weddings for their first dance.

Picturised on Bipasha Basu Grover and Akshaye Khanna the song opens with Grover opening the door to find a path filled with colourful petals. It was a beautiful song presented in the most lovely manner.

Pehla pyar ka pehla gham from ‘Papa Kehte Hai’ (1996)
In love there are happy times and then there are some sad moments. In this song Sweety (Mayuri Kango) is trying to apologise to Rohit (Jugal Hansraj) but no matter how much she tries he isn’t ready to forgive her.

Kavita Krishnamurthy sang displaying the loneliness, the sadness and the pain Sweety is feeling when she can’t be with the one she cares for.

Woh pehli baar jab hum mile from ‘Pyar Mein Kabhi Kabhi’ (1999)
A very young Dino Moreo and Rinke Khanna appeared in this song showing the good times one experiences in love. Their chemistry was pretty good and the video showed them spending time together.

For anyone who listens to this song they will feel like they’ve truly been transported back to the 90’s thanks to Shaan’s sensational voice.

Raj Kaushal, Vishal Dadlani made the music for this song, while Dadlani, Shiraz Moti and Samrat created the lyrics.

Pehla nasha from ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’ (1992)
The most famous song that has been remixed again and again but the original remains a golden classic. Aamir Khan and Ayesha Jhulka are students who are experiencing love for the first time, for them it is a magical time. They dream about the ones they love and see them wherever they go. One could say this song is about young love with Khan and Jhulka’s performances demonstrating this very well.

Udit Narayan and Sadhana Sargam sang this dreamy song which became an instant hit with the audience.

Pehli baar dil yun beqarar hua hai from ‘Hum Hogaye Aap Ke’ (2001)
Kumar Sanu sang for Fardeen Khan and Alka Yagnik sang for Reema Sen. Filmed in some beautiful locations outdoors both actors were seen wearing traditional Indian outfits looking amazing.

The lyrics revolve around the characters feelings or one could say the symptoms that suggest they’re in love. Not only did Sen and Khan’s chemistry work but Sanu and Yagnik’s melodious voices did wonders.

Pehli pehli baar mohabbat ki hai from ‘Sirf Tum’ (1999)
A love story about two souls uniting through letters. Deepak (Sanjay Kapoor) and Aarti (Priya Gill) have never met each other in person but through letters become close.

Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik sang this melodious song expressing the confusions and the excitement of a first love. The characters sing about how they’ve fallen in love for the first time and their condition is such that they don’t know what to do any more.

Pehli baar jo dekha from ‘Jungle’ (2000)
Many things happen when it comes to falling in love for the first time and in this case it was a story that began with hatred that then changed into deep love.

Anu (Urmila Mantondkar) is driving and nearly collides into Siddharth (Fardeen Khan) who comes from the opposite side on a motorbike. Both blame each other and leave angrily. After that meeting they bump into each other a number of times gradually sorting their differences out.

It was a song that showed how a relationship can change over time with Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan singing about how the characters hated one another the first time they met but somehow they fall in love.

Hua hain aaj pehli baar from ‘Sanam Re’ (2016)
The way the song has been presented in the film it doesn’t do justice to the vocals of Armaan Malik, Palak Muchhal and Amaal Mallik. It seems that the director has tried too many things with the video when really they could have kept it simple. Their voices are pure magic and just listening to the song will make one drift into another world.

The lyrics were written by Manoj Yadav while Mallik composed the music to go perfectly with the lyrics.

Pehli baar tumko maine jab dekha tha from ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ (2015)
The song begins with Ranveer Singh playing some music while Anushka Sharma looks on. Singh begins to sing and dance getting Sharma to join him. The song was an excuse for Singh’s character, Kabir to reveal his feelings for Farah (Sharma). The two of them had great chemistry and made the song fun with their expressions and carefree attitude.

Siddharth Mahadevan and Sukriti Kakkar sang for the two stars in this upbeat number.

BizAsiaLive.com wishes all its readers a Happy Valentine’s Day!
