BizAsia talks to Sonakshi Sinha about Bollywood Showstoppers 2014

Sonakshi Sinha is perhaps one of the most versatile actresses in Bollywood today having had films with older actors as well as the current generation. She seems to fit in with both groups pretty effortlessly. However, when thinking about her dancing skills, one thinks of the way she performs. The actress is all set to fire up the stage at London’s O2 this coming weekend in Bollywood Showstoppers, helmed by Flex FX Productions.

BizAsia had the chance to speak to Sinha ahead of her arrival in the UK for the concert.

Are you nervous at all about performing at Bollywood Showstoppers at all?

I’m not nervous but I’m very very excited because I’m done with my act; I’ve learnt them. I’ve not been rehearsing but I know when I get there I’ll have time on stage to rehearse. I’m excited because my acts have turned out very nice. They’re very upbeat and energetic so more than nervous, I’m very excited.

In the last year you’ve had some great tracks in your films. Can you give a hint on what you will be performing to?

I’m going to be dancing to pretty much my own songs. Like you said, I’ve got a good bank of songs and that’s from the very beginning of my career. There are going to be two acts, one of which will be very Indian. There are tracks from Dabangg, Rowdy Rathore. I’ll start off with Sawaar Loon from Lootera and then go into a very energetic space with my songs. There is also a western act where I’ve tried to mix songs with a very westernised beat. The outfits are going to be western. It’s going to be very different to what I usually perform on stage. I’ve tried to keep both of the acts very unlike each other.

You’ve performed all around the world but is there anything you can say is different about international audiences in comparison to those in India?

I think because the international audiences aren’t used to seeing us perform, I think they are very much more excited and very interactive as well. It’s very important when on stage that the audiences enjoy what you’re doing and they watch you and have their attention on you. I think that really happens a lot when we go abroad. I love performing out of the country because, even though it’s good in India, internationally it’s multiplied ten times.

Are there going to be any joint performances?

Not this time around. We all have our individual performances and everyone who’s going to be performing on stage are very good at what they do. Each one of us has something different to offer to the audience. It’s a very well put together show and I think it’ll be fantastic.

When you arrive in London, we hope you get the chance to do some sightseeing. Maybe we will be able to spot you somewhere other than just on stage performing?

(Laughs) I’ve been to London a couple of times before when my friends were studying there and I used to visit. I do have my few favourite spots where I might be seen. I hope I get some time to shop and just walk around. Actually I think I will make time.

So it just shows that if the fans look hard enough, they may well bump into the beautiful Sonakshi Sinha sometime in the next few days in London. BizAsia thanks her for taking the time out to talk to us.

Along with Sonakshi Sinha, Bollywood Showstoppers is also bringing Shahid Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez, Ali Zafar and Mika Singh to the London O2 on Sunday 3rd August.
