BizAsia talks to Priti Menon about new single Khabida

Beautiful and talented are two words that can be used to describe her but you would be very much mistaken if you thought singer Priti Menon’s beauty was just in her appearance. Menon’s singing talent is a force to be reckoned with. Having collaborated with various artists and musical entities, she recently unveiled her new single, Khabida. BizAsia caught up with Menon for a short-but-sweet interview.

What was your inspiration for the song?

My inspiration for not just this song but music in general is obviously AR Rahman! I’ve been an ardent fan since time immemorial. I۪ve always wanted to do something on my own as if I was his protege.

How did you decide the concept for the video?

Juggling with many options, this one just happened with minimal preparation. Since this is my first ever video that I’ve had to think of on my own, I was clueless about the concept, locations, etc. I spoke to an old friend who is a photographer and videographer and asked him if he was willing to shoot my debut single. Obviously he was more than happy! I had to travel to Birmingham to film it and since I couldn’t get days off work, I had to return back within a day. So the entire song was shot in a day in sub-zero temperatures, as you can tell from the video! But I’m very happy with the end results, so it was all worth it.

You’ve been a part of a few collaborations. Can we expect any more in the future?

Fingers crossed, I am in conversations with a few. Will be able to update you shortly.

Do you have a particular singing dream/goal?

My answer will again veer towards doing a number for the great AR Rahman and to be accepted by fans alike.

What do you hope people will take away from your new song?

There is a sweet anguish, rather mystic and I hope the melancholy dwells deep into their hearts.
