BizAsia talks to celebrity hairstylist Asghar
When one thinks of celebrity hairstyling in both the western and eastern worlds, there should only be one that comes to mind. Having styled supermodel Cindy Crawford to the beautiful Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Asghar’s magic is not just unique but also much sought after. He is no stranger to the most prestigious red carpet events and��his work has also graced many a national newspaper and fashion magazine.
Asghar’s clientele includes well-known Bollywood stars such as Deepika Padukone, Karisma Kapoor, and Rekha to name a few. He is also known in the business spectrum, having worked his magic on the hair of many royal households such as members of the Sultan of Brunei’s family.
Asghar’s most headline grabbing hairstyle is the one he created for heartthrob Hritik Roshan which was the inspiration behind the actor’s waxwork figure which now has prime place in London’s Madame Tussauds. BizAsia had the wonderful opportunity to speak with Asghar about his work with celebrities in B-town.
Can you pinpoint one moment in your career which you will always remember?
I will always remember the excitement of the day I was given the keys to my first salon. When I turned the key in the lock and stepped into the space, I had to imagine what it would be like. For me that moment was a dream come true.
Have you ever had to deal with any odd requests from celebs for their hair?
I work with many highly talented clients who are used to having just what they want. So the answer is of course yes. But I would be breaking confidence if I told you.
How would you make a decision as to what particular hairstyle would suit/be liked by any given celebrity?
As a stylist in many ways I am both an artist and a technician. So obviously I am taking in to consideration the bone structure of the face, skin colouration, eyes, smile etc. But really what I think I am doing is reading the energy of the person and what they are currently projecting into the world and what they would like to project.
Who would you say are the celebrities (who you’ve worked with) that have a natural style/charisma and why?
Hrithik Roshan has amazing hair and also has a great sense of style and humour. He knows exactly what he wants. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan��is another star that I have worked with who also has natural beauty and an amazing sense of style.
How would you describe your own personal style?
I am a warm, friendly and approachable person, who always likes to look smart. Clean shoes are a must!
