‘Hasee Toh Phasee’ was this month’s first much-awaited release and Friday was the day which saw it hit cinemas after special previews during the last few nights in Mumbai. Starring the bubbly Parineeti Chopra playing a Chinese scientist and Sidharth Malhotra as the events planner, the film is hailed by Dharma Productions and is running successfully worldwide. BizAsia caught up with the Chopra and Malhotra to speak about the movie.

Talking about the similarity between her real self and her character in the movie, Chopra says, “Almost no similarity. I had to do a lot of acting in Hasee Toh Phasee۪. The only thing I could draw upon was the energy I have in my life and what was required of my character in the film. I had to undergo workshops and it took me about 15-20 days to be absolutely ready before going to the set to shoot. It was quite technical to play this role.”

Chopra also spoke about the other actors in the film that make up the ensemble cast, “There are TV actors, senior actors, theatre actors… our tuning on the sets was great. We used to eat together after rehearsals. I think our collective chemistry in the movie has come through in the film.”

Malhotra also revealed a little about his character in the movie, “I۪m playing a boy my age, he is very ambitious, he wants to do well and is a bit confused in terms of doing what his family wants and what he wants. I think it۪s a very true story for all the youths today because sometimesyou get pressurised by people, for example: my mum wants me to do this۪, my dad wants me to do this۪; so I think my character is equally confused in that sense. He sticks by the commitments that he۪s made to his girlfriend, which I think is very interesting as well. So yes, I think this character is pretty much the regular clothes boy۪.”

When asked why the audiences should flock to the cinemas to watch ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’, Malhotra answers, “It’s not a typical film. I don’t play a typical hero and Parineeti doesn’t play a typical heroine. The film doesn’t have great locations and great costumes. The girl even eats toothpaste! It’s a quirky kind of film. It’s a family film and a comedy film and we’ve tried to do and show something different”.

Chopra revealed that she loved shooting Drama Queen out of the songs but Zehnaseeb is her favourite song of the film. Malhotra said his favourite track is Shake It Like Shammi and he was happy to hear that the music is doing well in the UK and he said that it is the UK that sets the trends.

‘Hasee Toh Phasee’ is produced by Dharma Productions and distributed by Reliance Entertainment. It is currently running successfully in cinemas.
