BizAsia IIFA Special: When Hollywood came to the IIFAs
The IIFA Awards take up much importance in Bollywood, taking the industry to different countries, and there are many celebrities who clear their diaries so that they can attend these prestigious awards. Be it the performances, the outfits or the awards everyone looks forward to the IIFAs for various reasons. So when it is heard that Hollywood actors will be making an appearance at the awards, no one would want to miss that.
BizAsia will look back at the time when Hollywood�۪s greatest actors attended the IIFA Awards.
IIFA in Tampa Bay, USA 2014
Hrithik Roshan was given the honour of presenting an award to Hollywood�۪s greatest John Travolta. The ��Outstanding Contribution to��International��Cinema�۪ award was given to Travolta. The actor had many fans from the Indian film industry as they all cheered for him upon receiving the award.��Roshan requested the legend to show him how to do the famous disco moves he did in the film ��Saturday Night Fever�۪ (1977).
Priyanka Chopra wasn�۪t to be left behind as she also got the chance to groove with the actor and what better song to dance to than Tune Maari Entriyaan��taken from her film ��Gunday�۪ (2014). Cousin Parineeti Chopra was ecstatic to see Chopra bring the Hollywood legend on stage.
It was one moment that will always be remembered by both Chopra and Roshan when they got to share the stage with Travolta.
Another fun moment was when Deepika Padukone was asked to come on stage to receive an award. The cheeky hosts of the 2014 awards Shahid Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar decided to have a little fun with Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey.
Akhtar and Kapoor asked Spacey if he had ever danced to a Bollywood song, if not now was the time to learn. They jokingly said to the actor that a lungi (loin cloth) has to be worn every time they dance. Taken from Padukone�۪s film ��Chennai Express�۪ (2013) all four celebrities did the ��Lungi dance�۪ and it has to be said Spacey did a pretty good job.
IIFA in Dubai, UAE 2006
Hosts Fardeen Khan and Lara Dutta invited two superstars on stage Bollywood�۪s very own Salman Khan and one of Hollywood�۪s greatest Jean Claude Van Damme. ��They were asked to present the ��Performance In A Leading Role�۪ award to the legend Amitabh Bachchan.
Before giving the award Damme asked the audience whether Khan and Damme should make an action film together. The audience roared in approval and Khan joked that Damme would do all the action while he would do all the romance.
IIFA in London, United Kingdom 2000
It was the time when Bollywood�۪s very own Khiladi Akshay Kumar showed the audiences what he knew when it came to martial arts. He performed some stunts alongside some Shaolin monks who had come especially from China.
While on stage Kumar was given the chance to present the ��Excellence In Indian Cinema�۪ award to legend Jackie Chan.
Chan seemed to be lost for words but when receiving the award the actor expressed his desire to work in Bollywood and named all of his talents from doing action, to comedy and even singing.
Another wonderful moment at the awards was when the beautiful Angelina Jolie and the king of romance, Shah Rukh Khan were invited on stage to present the ��Performance In A Leading Role�۪ award. The award was won by Aishwariya Rai Bachchan for her performance in ��Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam�۪ (1999) but unfortunately she couldn�۪t be there to receive it. On her behalf director Sanjay Leela Bhansali took the award and Khan told Jolie that this wasn�۪t Bachchan but in fact the director of the film who was taking the award on behalf of her.
