BizAsia Birthday Love: The talented Kavita Krishnamurthy

There is no lack of talent when it comes to the Indian film industry. So many talented individuals have touched stardom and while doing so have also helped others careers lift off.

25th January is the birthday of the singing legend Kavita Krishnamurthy. To celebrate her birthday BizAsiaLive.com will look back at some of her greatest hits that have also helped the actresses attain success.

Raveena Tandon in Main cheez badi hoon mast in ‘Mohra’ (1994)

After the film ‘Mohra’ was released Tandon became known as ‘the mast mast girl’ all thanks to the song she performed on. There were two versions of this song one was a duet between Udit Narayan and Krishnamurthy while the second one was sang entirely by the latter. It was one of the most popular songs in the album what with Tandon’s dance moves mixed with Krishnamurthy’s voice a hit song was created.

It’s amazing how Krishnamurthy had sung both songs but she sang them with a difference. The duet she did was an upbeat number and had her singing with a powerful tone whereas the second version had her singing in a slow but soothing manner to suit the situation in the film.

Sridevi in Hawa Hawai in ‘Mr India’ (1987)

An upbeat party song that would make any person want to get up and dance. Sridevi made this song entirely hers with her dance steps, the perfectly timed comedy and her many wonderful expressions, without this perhaps the song wouldn’t be what it is today.

Of course Krishnamurthy made this song come alive with her voice. It was a song unlike any other before with lots of high notes mixed with some extraordinary lyrics. Just like Sridevi, Krishnamurthy gave it her all for this song with her powerful performance singing the intro in an opera style. Not only was it entertaining to watch visually but it was also a fun number to listen to.

Manisha Koirala in Aaj Main Upar in ‘Khamoshi: The Musical’ (1996)

Aaj main upar was a song about a girl who feels like she is on top of the world. Koirala’s simplicity worked its magic with the melodious voice of Krishnamurthy. It was a joyous song that had Koirala dancing and enjoying like any normal girl would at home. Singing with Krishnamurthy was Kumar Sanu who sang for Salman Khan. Sanu’s voice accompanied Krishnmaurthy very well adding a nice touch to the song.

The song maybe simple but with Krishnamurthy’s voice it becomes a feel good song. Koirala’s character is feeling happy and this happiness can be felt in the voice of Krishnamurthy. It is a song that can put anyone in a good mood with its motivational lyrics and melodious sounds.

Tabu in Dil Ka kya Karen Sahib from ‘Jeet’ (1996)

Dil ka kya karen is a mujra style song with a fast and modern beat to it. Tabu danced like a dream on the song with her classical dance moves along with some backing dancers. Tabu performed to the song with such feeling and enthusiasm, that it seemed like she had sung the song herself. The happiness her character is feeling at seeing the one she loves can be seen through the way she performed in the song.

Krishnamurthy did an exceptional job of bringing the poetry in the lyrics alive. If this song is considered a classic today then that is due to the way Krishnamurthy sang it with such power and passion.

Madhuri Dixit in Noorani Chehrewale from ‘Yaarana’ (1995)

Dixit is a delight to watch in this song with her childlike naughtiness and the way she continuously irritates Rishi Kapoor. It was a comedy song which portrayed Dixit differently but she was appreciated for this performance.

Krishnamurthy was able to convey so many emotions Dixit’s character is feeling from her annoyance to her excitement. Even her range in singing changed throughout the song from a whispering tone to full on happy it can all be heard in this song. It was a perfect combination with Dixit known for her amazing dancing and Krishnamurthy’s brilliance at singing any song with great style.

BizAsiaLive.com wishes Kavita Krishnamurthy happy birthday.
