BizAsia Birthday Love: Neetu Singh’s five iconic songs

Neetu Singh started her acting career at a very young age and with time she managed to become an actress everyone adored. When she got married she decided to leave the world of Bollywood and concentrate on her family life but still her fans never forgot about her. It has only been a few years since she has made a return to the silver screen and her fans are ever so thankful to see her again.

On the 8th July Singh will be celebrating her 59th birthday and to mark the occasion BizAsiaLive.com will look back at Singh’s five iconic songs.

Tumse door rehke from ‘Adalat’ (1976)

Amitabh Bachchan was seen alongside Singh in this romantic number. Although both stars have worked together in many films this is perhaps one of the few that had them cast opposite each other.

The combination of Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi in this song was pure magic, their vocals suited both Bachchan and Singh very well. Gulshan Bawra wrote the lyrics while Kalyanji Anandji created the music. The song was filmed in an outdoor location where there were flowers and greenery to suit the romantic song.

In the video Bachchan and Singh are seen running away from two men who seem to be trying to keep them apart. Singh did her part well of a young woman who wants only to be with the man she loves while the world denies her of this right.

Lekar Hum Deewana Dil from ‘Yaadon Ki Baraat’ (1973)

It was a tale about three brothers who get seperated in their childhood and when they grow up they cross paths not knowing that they are related. Singh made a special appearance in the song alongside Tariq Khan who played the role of one of the three brothers. The song was a big hit with the vocals of both Asha Bhosle and Kishore Kumar creating a song of a new kind. It was a love song but very different to any heard before as R D Burman had experimented with the music.

A very young Singh was seen grooving to the western music of the maestro Burman. Who can forget the iconic red outfit she wore and the way she performed on the vocals of Bhosle. Even if Singh didn’t try all eyes were definitely on her.

Hai re hai tera ghunghta from ‘Dhongee’ (1979)

Kumar and Bhosle came together once again but this time to sing for both Randhir Kapoor and Singh. What made this catchy song stand out was the fact that it had both western and Indian beats, Burman truly created another masterpiece with this one.

While the music and the vocals of the artists were electrifying Singh was no less as she brought a lot of energy in her performance. In the video Singh was seen in various Indian attires as the lyrics revolved around her veil.

Tere chehre se nazar from ‘Kabhi Kabhie’ (1976)

Picturised on both husband and wife the song proved that they were a match made in heaven. Set in various locations Singh’s character Pinky describes the beauty before them while Vicky (Rishi Kapoor) takes no notice. When Pinky (Singh) says this to him he sings that he can’t take his eyes off her face so how can he take the sights in.

From the moment the song begins it captivates the listener with the beautiful melody created by Khayyam and the vocals of Kumar and Mangeshkar.

Kapoor and Singh looked great together showing the audience what young love is like. It was a beautiful song which wouldn’t have been the same without either of them.

Kehdoon tumhe from ‘Deewaar’ (1975)

It was one of the biggest films of the year which starred some of Bollywood’s greatest names. The story was about two brothers who were brought up together but decided to follow different paths.

Shashi Kapoor and Bachchan played the role of brothers while the late Parveen Babi and Singh were seen opposite them.

It was a sweet song that saw Kapoor and Singh share screen space together. Veera (Singh) is overjoyed that Ravi’s (Kapoor) police training has ended and goes to pick him up. The video consisted of the two driving home and expressing their love and dreams for one another. Sahir Ludhianvi wrote the lyrics and Burman once again managed to make a memorable song.

Out of the whole soundtrack this song was said to be a big hit at the time in fact numerous remixes have been made which have also been very popular.

BizAsiaLive.com wishes Singh a very happy birthday!
