BizAsia Birthday Love: Kangna Ranaut’s iconic looks in movies

Kangna Ranaut has never shied away from experimenting with roles and that goes for fashion too. Her fans are always eager to catch a glimpse of her to see what she is wearing as she always looks phenomenal.

23rd March marks the 30th birthday of the talent house Ranaut and to celebrate this occasion, BizAsiaLive.com will look at some of the characters that Ranaut has played and the different looks they had.

Rehana’s look in ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai’ (2010)
Ranaut played the role of an actress named Rehana, she was glamorous and graceful and extremely beautiful. Every time she appeared onscreen she was a vision, one could say there was a certain class to her in the way she moved and carried herself.

Her outfits consisted of both western and Indian giving the audience an insight into the fashion during the 70’s. Sometimes Rehana would be seen wearing beautiful saris or at times a fashionable gown depending on the occasion. As Rehana was an actress she would be seen with various fashion accessories to match her outfits such as a hair band or a clutch to match her dress.

To accompany the outfits was the spectacular hair and makeup. In most scenes Rehana was seen with winged eyeliner because that was considered a very popular look in those days. The hairstyles such as the beehive were seen and of course the side fringe. Very rarely would Rehana’s hair be left loose it would usually be styled in some way or another to get a very sophisticated look.

Payal’s look in ‘Katti Batti’ (2015)
The best way to describe the character of Payal is to use the term free as a bird. She does as she pleases and tries to have as much fun as possible. Payal is full of life and seems to always have lots of energy. Payal’s persona was expressed perfectly through her look in the film. She wore loose clothing such as flowy dresses, baggy tops, kimono jackets that consisted of crazy prints thrown with some shorts. Her look was casual but not boring, it was eye catching thanks to her accessories be it her hats or her interesting jewellery.

Ranauat also tried something different with her hairstyle for this film. She had a fringe with long loose curls which she managed to pull off with ease. Sometimes her hair would be tied up with a scarf and at times put in a loose braid depending on her mood.

Rani’s look in ‘Queen’ (2013)
Ranaut played the role of a beautiful girl who has many talents. She has what it takes to get far in life but her fiancée thinks otherwise and decides to part ways with her before their wedding. Disheartened she feels that she needs to get away from everything and decides to go on her honeymoon which is the best decision she ever makes. The situation she finds herself in helps her to not only become stronger but gives her the confidence to do things she never thought she could.

In terms of clothing Rani is simple and doesn’t seem to experiment much with her look. Throughout the film it can be seen that Rani feels most comfortable in a pair of jeans and a kurta. Her dressing style seems to be more of convenience rather than for fashion. Even her hair is to die for, it’s long and curly but she keeps it tied up at all times.

It is only in the second half of the film where Rani begins to become more confident and gradually begins to transform herself. She begins to experiment with her clothing wearing beautiful dresses that make her feel good, she even straightens her hair to show the new her. When it comes to makeup a very natural look was used for Rani, she was never seen with lots of eyeliner or even accessories for that matter. Maybe the film makers wanted a girl next door look, a character that was real.

Kaya’s look in ‘Krrish 3’ (2013)
Kaya was modern, cool and very futuristic in terms of her whole look. She wore an electric grey, metallic coloured body suit paired with long black boots. The outfit showed off her figure and she looked amazing. Her main hairstyle in the film was a sleek styled braid which in some ways resembled a chameleon. Kaya has powers that enable her to transform or morph herself into anyone and anything, perhaps that is why when the look of Kaya was created the film makers wanted this to be shown visually in her look.

In the song dil tu bata Kaya continued to look futuristic but to the next degree with big hair styles which looked like great masterpieces. She wore dresses that were flowy and were bold in colours like gold, red and electric purple. Throughout the film Kaya is portrayed as tough and not really girly but in this song the feminine side to her can be seen.

Ranaut’s features were brought out more with the way her eye makeup had been done. Metallic tones were used for her eyes with a sharp line of eyeliner to complete the look. Not forgetting her eyes, she wore contact lenses to make her pupils look big.

Tanu/ Kusum look in ‘Tanu Weds Manu: Returns’ (2015)
Ranaut played a double role in the film. One was the iconic Tanu while the other character was a sports student named Kusum.

Tanu is a full on Punjabi girl and this is shown in her clothing. Brightly coloured Indian suits completed with beautiful pieces of jewellery. Her look is very loud and she pulls it off well as her character is confident too. Tanu is a character who loves to dress up as it is a way to show the world who she is.

Her makeup consists of thick eyeliner, a small bindi and at times bright red lipstick. For Tanu’s character, Ranaut’s hair looks as though as it has been left naturally. The voluminous curls suit Tanu’s character.

Kusum on the other hand is a tomboy who is mostly seen in a track suit, it’s quite rare she will be seen dressed up. When she is at home she can be seen wearing a simple Indian suit with a cardigan. She is hardly ever seen wearing any jewellery and makeup isn’t something that interests her.

She has short hair like a boy which is pushed to the side which sounds dreadful but actually looks very cute. Kusum likes to keep things simple when it comes to the way she looks and she is completely happy about it.

Tanu and Kusum are total opposites when it comes to style but one thing that they have in common is the confidence they have. They may be different in many ways but they’re strong minded women.

BizAsiaLive.com wishes Kangna Ranaut a happy 30th birthday and all the best for her future projects.
