BizAsia 2020 Outlook: Eight films to look forward to

2019 ends and with it begins a new year of creativity and entertainment. For the Indian film industry it seems that 2020 will be the year for sequels and remakes. Saying that there will also be some films based on true stories that will make the audience think.

In this feature BizAsiaLive.com will look at some of the films the audience can look forward to in 2020.

‘Coolie No. 1’
Releasing in May this will be a remake of the 1995 comedy classic which starred Govinda and Karisma Kapoor. David Dhawan directed the original and will again be directing this remake but this time with his son Varun Dhawan as the hero and Sara Ali Khan opposite him. It will be the first time Khan and Dhawan work together so it will be interesting to see this pairing on screen.

‘Laxmmi Bomb’
Another May release that will see Akshay Kumar in a totally new avatar. The film is said to be a remake of the Tamil film ‘Muni 2: Kanchana’ (2011) which is loved by many. Alongside Kumar will be Kiara Advani and Tusshar Kapoor in this comedy horror. When Kumar revealed his character’s look on Instagram he shared that he was both nervous and excited about doing this role. However with director Raghava Lawrence who directed the Tamil version we feel Kumar has nothing to worry about.

‘Sadak 2’
The well awaited sequel to the 1991 film ‘Sadak’ which starred Sanjay Dutt, Pooja Bhatt and the late Sadashiv Amrapurkar will be arriving very soon in the month of July. Luckily fans will get to see both Dutt and Bhatt unite again after so many years with the iconic director Mahesh Bhatt. There is a lot of excitement around this film as Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapur will also be apart of this project. As well as this Pooja Bhatt’s fans will be overjoyed as she will be seen on screen rather than behind the scenes after many years.

‘Angrezi Medium’
In 2017 the audience got to see the likes of Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar Zaman in the comedy, drama ‘Hindi Medium’. The film did exceptionally well so it is no surprise that a sequel is being made which is to be released in March. This time joining Khan will be Kareena Kapoor Khan and Radhika Madan which will be something to look forward to.

‘The Girl on the Train’
Originally a novel that had been made into a Hollywood film in 2016. Bollywood decided they wanted to try remaking this mystery thriller which will be interesting to see. Parineeti Chopra will be in the lead role with Aditi Rao Hydari and Kirti Kulhari alongside her. Definitely all eyes will be on Chopra and the director Ribhu Dasgupta to see whether they will be able to match the brilliance of the original pieces.

‘Chhapaak’
The year will begin with an extraordinary story of bravery and survival. ‘Chhapaak’ is a film based on the real life story of Laxmi Agarwal who is a survivor of an acid attack. Meghna Gulzar not only has directed this film but has also produced it in the hope of raising awareness around acid attacks. Deepika Padukone will be seen playing the role of an acid attack survivor as well as producing the film. The trailer has received a lot of positive feedback with the audience wanting to know more about Padukone’s character and her journey to recovery.

‘Laal Singh Chaddha’
The year is incomplete if Aamir Khan doesn’t make an appearance in a film. However it will be quite a long wait for this one as it will be releasing at the end of 2020 around the Christmas period. This comedy drama will be a remake of the 1994 Hollywood film ‘Forrest Gump’ with Khan in the lead. Reuniting with Khan will be Kareena Kapoor Khan who has worked with the actor in the past and achieved much success at the box office.

‘83’
It’s going to be cricket madness in April with this film based on the life of the great Indian cricketer Kapil Dev. The story will focus around the time when the Indian National cricket team won the 1983 Cricket World Cup. Ranveer Singh will be taking on the role of the Veteran cricketer and what better choice we say as this actor is able to take on any role that comes his way with great passion. Another reason to rejoice is that Singh will be seen with wife Padukone who funnily enough will be playing the role of his wife in the film.

These were some of the films that will be releasing in 2020, do stay tuned to BizAsiaLive.com in the new year for more news and entertainment.
