Birthday Special: Ranbir Kapoor – One hero, 10 actresses

Today marks the birthday of Ranbir Kapoor, a versatile actor who has actresses lining up to work with him. BizAsia will look at his pairing with ten actresses and their amazing chemistry.

Ranbir asks for Deepika?

Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani۪ (2013)
It is no secret that Deepika Padukone and Kapoor were dating at one point and although they may not be together, they have managed to remain good friends.

Padukone and Kapoor looked the best they ever did in this film. Padukone was the nerdy, medical student Naina who falls for the ever charming Bunny (Kapoor) during a hiking trip. The chemistry between the two was so perfect that the audience felt that both actors should get back together. This may not be possible in the real world but in the reel world it is a possibility as they will be seen in Imtiaz Ali۪s Tamasha۪ very soon.

Ranbir-Priyanka in 'Anjaana Anjaani'

Priyanka Chopra in Anjaana Anjaani۪ (2010)
Two strangers meet one night not knowing how their destinies are entwined. Priyanka Chopra and Kapoor came together for the first time in this film. The story was about how two individuals attempting to end their lives find a reason to become friends and in the end an excuse to live. Kiara (Chopra) is feisty and fearless but the more one gets to know about her it is obvious to anyone that she is still a little girl with big dreams in her eyes. Akash (Kapoor) is a business man who is used to winning, it would be fair to say that he spent most of his life just concentrating on his work. Their pairing was appreciated a lot therefore they were seen again two years later in the film Barfi۪ (2012) which did exceptionally well.

Bachna Ae Haseeno - Ranbir Bipasha

Bipasha Basu in Bachna Ae Haseeno۪ (2008)
When this film was being released a lot was being said about this pairing. Bipasha Basu who is slightly older than Kapoor was criticised because there was a chance she may not look right with her younger hero. All the doubts seemed to fade away because Basu and Kapoor actually looked pretty good together. Radhika (Basu) becomes a famous actress thanks to Raj (Kapoor) who dumps her on their wedding day. After that Radhika decides that rather than wasting her time crying over a man who left her she will use that anger to make something of herself. The story takes a turn when Raj has turned a leaf and wants to apologise for all that he had done. How Radhika gets her own back is hilarious.

Ranbir-Katrina
Ranbir-Katrina

Katrina Kaif in Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani۪ (2009)
Rajkumar Santoshi۪s film was a romantic comedy which helped the careers of both the leading actors. The girl next door Jennifer was played by Katrina Kaif who doesn۪t even know that Prem (Kapoor) is slowly falling in love with her. A twist comes into the story when Prem learns that Jennifer has a boyfriend and even after knowing all this he still wants to reunite the two lovers. The pairing was young, fresh and their chemistry was perfect. It was this film that got the rumours going that Kaif and Kapoor were dating. At the time the pair denied it but eventually it came out that the pair were officially together.

A few years later they were seen in the political film Raajneeti۪ (2010) and very soon their fans will be able to see them in the detective genre film Jagga Jasoos۪.

Ranbir Kapoor & Madhuri Dixit in 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani'

Madhuri Dixit in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani۪ (2013)
Madhuri Dixit has worked in a number of films with Kapoor۪s father Rishi Kapoor but this time it was the son who got a chance to work with the actress. The dancing goddess was seen doing an item number with the dashing Kapoor and if there was any disappointment it is only the fact that the two were seen in just one song not a film. Maybe one day the audiences will get their wish and both actors will make a film together.

'Rockstar'

Nargis Fakhri in Rockstar۪ (2011)
Seen like never before, Kapoor showed his competitors that he could act. A nerd, a lover, a rebel to a musician there were many different shades to the character he played. If that wasn۪t enough his scenes with Nargis Fakhri got audiences wanting more. Fahkri made her acting debut with this film and was highly praised for her role.

Ranbir-Konkona in 'Wake Up Sid'

Konkona Sen Sharma in Wake Up Sid۪ (2009)
A boy who doesn۪t want to grow up soon realises that eventually he will have to grow up. Sid (Kapoor) who is used to an easy life meets the hard working Aisha (Konkona Sen Sharma) who moves to Mumbai to pursue her dream of becoming a writer. The two are complete opposites put as the saying goes Opposites attract۪ the same happens here. Sen is not an actress one may have picked to work with someone like Kapoor but it works. Her character is sensible, a little old fashioned but because of her interaction with Sid she learns to enjoy life a little more.

Kapoor and D'Cruz in 'Barfi!'

Ileana D۪Cruz in Barfi۪ (2012)
Once again Kapoor was paired with a new actress, this time it was the south actress Ileana D۪Cruz who was making her Bollywood debut. Cruz looked exceptionally beautiful in her Bengali styled saris and the winged eye makeup. As for her character she was a woman who learnt that her life could have been very different had she been brave enough to accept Barfi. Kapoor was the mischievous Murphy aka Barfi who seemed to always get in some sort of trouble. It was hard for the audience not to fall in love with Kapoor۪s character because no matter what he did it was a good man with a heart of gold.

Saawariya

Sonam Kapoor in Saawariya۪ (2007)
Sonam Kapoor started her film journey with Kapoor in Sanjay Leela Bhansali۪s love saga. The film didn۪t seem to work but the pairing of the two newcomers was appreciated. At the Filmfare Awards the young Kapoor won the Best Male Debut award. There was much hype about the two newcomers as they were the children of legendary actors. The film opened many doors for them and now eight years later they have made a name for themselves in the industry. As a pair both actors looked nice together, with her beauty and his handsome looks, sadly this pair hasn۪t worked together since.

'Bombay Velvet' starring Ranbir & Anushka

Anushka Sharma in Bombay Velvet۪ (2015)
This was a pairing many had been dying to see but sadly the film flopped big time. However not all is lost as audiences will get the chance to see Anushka Sharma and Kapoor work together in the upcoming film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil۪. Perhaps there were many people that felt this pairing hadn۪t been given a fair chance so maybe this time with the right story and a different director a new hit Jodi could be born.

BizAsia wishes this amazing hero a very happy birthday and all the best for his upcoming releases.
