Birthday Love: Vicky Kaushal’s five memorable performances

Vicky Kaushal needs no introduction. His film choices and performances that have followed speak for themselves. Kaushal has proven that rock solid characters do win the race amongst the bevy of Bollywood stars that line up at the starting line.  He has come a long way from his heartfelt performance in his first leading role in ‘Masaan’ (2015) to his recent gripping role in ‘Sardar Udham’ (2021).

As Kaushal celebrates his 34th birthday on 16th May, BizAsiaLive.com takes a walk down memory lane with five of Kaushal’s most memorable performances.

‘Sardar Udham’ (2021)
Kaushal ventured into new territory in an unseen avatar with ‘Sardar Udham’. His role as Sher “Udham” Singh took us back in history and Kaushal was remarkable through each period the film was based through. His intense, raw emotion captured through time gave the audience an insight into the horrific circumstances during a time of massacre. It was very evident that we were seeing a very driven Kaushal throughout the film with every detail given to such a powerful character.

‘Raazi’ (2018)
Kaushal played Officer Iqbal Syed in Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Raazi’. An officer who is loyal to both his country and wife (an undercover RAW agent.) He pulls at your heartstrings every time he comes on screen, making the audience rally for a bright future between the protagonists. Kaushal’s performance was beautiful and sincere in his first big budget commercial role, where there was no denying we would be seeing him in many more grand-scale projects to come.

‘Sanju’ (2018)
Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Sanju’ had a stellar star cast and it was safe to say that it didn’t matter if it was Ranbir Kapoor or Paresh Rawal on screen, Kaushal packed a mighty punch with his hilarious, witty, and warm portrayal as best friend Kamlesh in this Sanjay Dutt biopic. His positive persona and aura on screen was a stark reminder that friendship is meant to be truly selfless and that Kaushal is not only meant to give us hard hitting dramatic performances, but can win us over with his wit as well.

‘Manmarziyaan’ (2018)
Kaushal’s finest performance of 2018 had to be his vulnerable, coming of age character of his namesake in Anurag Kashyap’s much awaited ‘Manmarziyaan’. His character Vicky, a spoiled, immature DJ had much to learn when it came to the complexities of the real world. Kaushal exploded on screen as a confused, expressive lover boy who can’t seem to put the pieces of his life together without being destructive. His performance as Vicky was soulful, making it impossible to miss every heart wrenching tug throughout the film.

‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ (2019)
Kaushal’s performance as Major Vihaan Singh Shergill is one for the books. Delivering a strong, effortless, and impactful on screen presence is not new to Kaushal, but his captivating portrayal as an Indian Army officer brought the entire film home. You couldn’t help but feel proud at the actor Kaushal had become with the stark difference in past characters to his role as this captivating leader. His smooth transitions from a patriotic army officer, to a vulnerable son and brother, to the person keeping it altogether is what kept you glued to your seat and yearn for more screen time with him.

BizAsiaLive.com wishes Vicky Kaushal a very Happy 34th Birthday!
