Birthday Love: Kareena Kapoor Khan’s characters’ careers in films
Every year we look forward to seeing this actress in a new film. With each film comes a new story and at times a character that the audience falls in love with. Kareena Kapoor Khan has done many memorable roles such as a doctor fighting to save the youth of the country in the 2016 film ‘Udta Punjab’, to the ambitious Kia in ‘Ki & Ka’ (2016) who would much rather focus on her career than look after the home.
On the occasion of her birthday, BizAsiaLive.com will look at five films in which Khan’s characters have taken employment in various fields.
Hairstylist in ‘Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’ (2012)
Full of life and the desire to enjoy every moment that is Riana (Khan). What does she do for a living? Well she is a hairstylist and she very much loves her job. In the film there is a scene where Imran Khan’s character Rahul makes fun of Riana by calling her a barber rather than a hairstylist. However he realises that she is in fact good at what she does and she enjoys her profession. The audience doesn’t really get to see Riana do much hair styling in the film but there is one time when she decides to give Rahul (Imran Khan) a little make over.
Designer in ‘We Are Family’ (2010)
In this family drama Khan plays the role of a designer named Shreya who is trying to make a name for herself in the fashion industry. Very passionate about designing, Shreya will be found in a corner sketching away trying to come up with new designs that she thinks people will like. She is very hard working and puts a lot of time into her designs. Luckily her hard work pays off when she takes part in a fashion show and ends up winning.
Lawyer in ‘Aitraaz’ (2004)
As the film begins Priya (Khan) can be seen ringing various places for work. After completing her law degree she wishes to take on a role in this field but struggles to find work. After seeing an advert in the newspaper for the role of an assistant to a barrister she feels that luck is finally on her side and goes for an interview. Priya doesn’t end up getting the job but instead she finds the person she wants to spend the rest of her life with. After that she decides to become a housewife and doesn’t think about practising law.
However a few years later when Priya’s husband is accused of sexually harassing his boss and the lawyer defending him is attacked, she decides to fight his case. The audience finally gets to see Khan take on the role of a lawyer who manages to outsmart the opposite side in every way possible. From a sweet and loving housewife to a lawyer who knows how to defend her client, the change in Khan’s character is so fun to watch.
Actress in ‘Heroine’ (2012)
Mahi (Khan) is an actress who feels that she has what it takes to be at the top and she will do whatever it takes to get there. Khan was very much appreciated for this role as it showed the dark side of cinema and some of the things actresses have to face in their lives. Mahi finds herself in many uncomfortable situations. From her private life being discussed in the media, to being replaced in films for reasons that don’t seem to make sense. She realises that to be relevant to the audience she can’t just sit back and needs to take action herself. The audience gets to see the lengths this actress goes to in order to stay in the eye of the public. Khan did a great job of showing a woman going through various phases in her career and how it affects her mentally.
Police Officer in ‘Angrezi Medium’ (2020)
Tough and a no nonsense person Khan’s character meant business when she spoke. Khan played the role of a British police officer who took her job very seriously. As a person she seemed to be cold and not very understanding but there was a soft side to her which she kept hidden. Khan fit into the role of a police officer very well however her role was quite small so the audience didn’t get to see much of her. Perhaps in the future we may get to see Khan take on the role of a police office again but this time in a bigger role.
The team at BizAsiaLive.com wishes Kareena Kapoor Khan a very happy birthday!
