Birthday Love: Five of Karisma Kapoor’s most popular tracks

Karisma Kapoor is one actress that brings feeling of nostalgia for all those who lived through the time she was active as the main heroine in films. With so many popular songs in her career, it’s definitely easy to say that the 90s and noughties were made up of tracks that are memorable when the audiences think of her.

Although it’s difficult to choose just a handful, BizAsia looks at five of Kapoor’s most popular tracks from the era, for that perfect trip down memory lane, to celebrate her birthday.

Main To Raste Se Ja Raha Tha – ‘Coolie No 1’ (1995)
How can anyone forget this track from Kapoor’s most popular pairing with Govinda? The duo had some fantastic tracks but this is undoubtedly one of the most popular and it was reprised in the remake which starred Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan. But can one really match an original which is so iconic? Kapoor’s saree and the fact that the lyrics suited their pairing’s style and the dance moves. Truly unforgettable.

Sona Kitna Sona Hai – ‘Hero No 1’ (1997)
It’s a Govinda track once again and it’s hard not to sway to this one whenever you hear it. Kapoor’s dancing to entice Govinda on the streets of Europe with a crowd in the background watching her latkas and jhatkas – this is what 90s Bollywood was all about. And this is one of the most memorable songs in Kapoor’s career.

Le Gayi – ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ (1997)
It’s the only solo song of hers in the film and it’s the one that has Asha Bhosle on the vocals. Reportedly, Kapoor took on the role of Nisha after so many actresses turned it down but she shone in this one and it really made a mark on her career. Le Gayi sees her on stage in a theatre production, performing to a live audience. With a catchy melody and choreography which one remembers even today, this is definitely one that we can’t leave off this list.

Pardesi Pardesi – ‘Raja Hindustani’ (1996)
This track was ever so popular when ‘Raja Hindustani’ released, playing on radio stations, music shops and the like everywhere. Although it features Pratibha Sinha as the dancer, it is undoubtedly a Kapoor and Aamir Khan track. It’s also one of the most popular of Kapoor’s career, yet again. She plays the daughter of a well-to-do family who falls for her driver and her performance received many accolades.

Ek Dil Hai – ‘Ek Rishtaa’ (2001)
Another very popular track in Kapoor’s career was this song in which she was seen with Akshay Kumar. With Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu on the vocals, it was a love song that also “went viral”, so to speak. Nadeem Shravan were the composers so it’s no surprise it was one that many held close to their hearts and still do.

BizAsia wishes Karisma Kapoor a very happy birthday!
