Birthday Love: Five Amitabh Bachchan dance tracks we love

Over 200 films, with 53 years in the film industry and counting, Amitabh Bachchan is one name that is loved a praised by the world. With the ever-changing trends of storytelling through moving image, this is one actor who has been able to adapt his craft to the current times. As well as his acting, he has also managed to keep up with it when it comes to shaking a leg.

On his 79th Birthday, BizAsia is looking at some of Bachchan’s most catchy dance tracks through the years, that make anyone shake a leg or two.

My Name is Anthony Gonsalves – ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ (1977)
With Kishore Kumar behind the vocals, this song is memorable for all the right reasons. From Bachchan’s top-hat attire to catchy lyrics and upbeat rhythm, Anand Bakhsi was sure to have this one have everyone on their feet. An easy listen, and a comedic musical number, Bachchan was perfect in his moves which only added the excellence of his performance of his character.

Khaike Paan Banaras Wala – ‘Don’ (1978)
Another song that is sure to get people moving their feet, Khaike Paan Banaras Wala is full of simple beats and simple dance moves. Bachchan, who shared the screen with the fabulous Zeenat Aman in this one, brings the song to life. At a time where music was developing into genre’s of disco tech and urban sounds, this was a song that reminded listeners that the music and dance moves of the past are not lost.

Jhumma Chumma De De – ‘Hum’  (1991)
Mukul S Anand’s ‘Hum’ was one film that many had their eyes on. Particularly due to this controversial number. Despite sharing the screen in the film with the likes of a young Govinda, Rajnikanth and Shilpa Shirodkar, it’s Sudesh Bhosale and Kavita Krishnamurthy’s Jhumma Chumma De De that everyone remembered Bachchan as the stand out actor. Still a favourite today, this song was rather forward for its time. However, with an excellent introduction and brilliant tune, this is another that has everyone moving their body to the beat, and replicating Bachchan’s killer moves.

Makhna – ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ (1998)
With David Dhawan priding himself with comedic hits, ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ could have come at a better time for the Big B. With the 90s proving to be challenging as more fresh faces came on the scene, it seemed Bachchan’s time at the top was fading. However, the film and in particular this song in which he shakes a leg with his co-star Govinda and dancing queen Madhuri Dixit, was one that had everyone smiling to the beat and proved the actor still had his great talent with him. Keeping up with his co-stars, here is a song gets one movin’ to the groovin’.

Kajra Re – Bunty Aur Babli (2015)
Putting aside that he is dancing with his son and daughter-in-law, Kajra Re was the biggest hit of the year when this film released.  Brilliantly choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant, the Bachchan’s had everyone clapping, side-stepping and shaking their heads to every beat. With simple steps to replicate, the Big B remains as the one everyone was impressed by with this dance number. Looking as cool as ever, with dark shades and his signature red scarf, here is a song that even non-bollywood fans can’t help but sing and dance to.

Of course, there are plenty more that we could add to the list. Bachchan ever-growing list of projects includes some brilliant dance tracks where he proves over and over again he is a master of his craft, Still very much appreciated for his work, Big B continues to show there is nothing he can’t do and that age isn’t a barrier. Here’s wishing the actor a very happy birthday from all of us at BizAsiaLive.com.
