Birthday Love: Deepika Padukone & her five contemporaries

In 2008 Deepika Padukone starred in ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ which also had Bipasha Basu Singh Grover and Minissha Lamba star in the film. Then later in 2010 she worked with Lara Dutta and the late Jiah Khan in ‘Housefull’.

Padukone is one actress who has never shied away from working in a film that stars another actress.

On the wonderful occasion of her birthday, BizAsiaLive.com will look at five films that had her work with her contemporaries.

‘Desi Boyz’ (2011)
Padukone played the role of Radhika a strong minded woman who knew what she wanted in life. She was a pure romantic at heart and with her fiancé Nick (John Abraham) she dreamed she would have a wonderful life until she learns he has hidden something from her.

On the other side Tanya played by Chitrangada Singh was a professor at a top college. She gradually falls in love with her old class mate Jerry (Akshay Kumar) who has returned to college to complete his studies.

Singh played her role with assurance making many wish she was their teacher at school.

Padukone managed to make people laugh and at the same time made them wonder if her love story would ever have a happy ending.

‘Cocktail’ (2012)
As free as a bird that’s the best way to describe Veronica (Padukone). Living her life one day at a time, she tries to make the most of each and every experience she has.

Meera played by Diana Penty was the meek, quiet girl who slowly begins to open up after living with the confident Veronica (Padukone).

Veronica will definitely go down as one of the best characters played by Padukone. She had many shades to her character at times she would be happy with the life she had, then she’d feel jealousy looking at what others had. There were two actresses with Penty doing a superb job but we loved Padukone a lot!

‘Race 2’ (2013)
Alina (Padukone) was feisty with lots of intelligence. Her character was such that it was hard to figure out if she was worth trusting or not. Be it her impeccable style or her fantastic business sense she was a complete woman with a heart.

On the other hand Omisha played by Jacqueline Fernandez was a cunning woman who only loved wealth and anyone who had tons of it. Once again both actresses had an impressive role to play which was different to previous roles they had done.

However it is Padukone who wins as her role saw her evolve from a business woman, a lover and a woman who wants her revenge.

‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ (2013)
Naina (Padukone) is the girl following her parents wishes and studying to be a doctor. Inside her heart she has so many desires, she wishes to live a little but doesn’t know how to. When she bumps into Aditi (Kalki Koechlin) she realises that she hasn’t really experienced much in her life. Aditi (Koechlin) is confident, dresses how she wants, she lives her life as she pleases. Naina (Padukone) envies her because she doesn’t have any friends, she has never been to a party in her life and above all she has never been in love.

When Naina (Padukone) joins Aditi (Koechlin) and her group of friends on a trip she manages to have fun, make friends and even fall in love.

Koechlin and Padukone played the role of best friends. Their scenes together were great to watch and even though there were many actors in the film Padukone still managed to make her presence felt.

‘Bajirao Mastani’ (2015)
Mastani (Padukone) was a colourful warrior with two sides to her. A wise woman who spoke with such poise and dignity. She had knowledge and spoke with reason. The warrior in her knew when to raise her sword and with her bravery fought on the battlefield as well as in her daily life.

Priyanka Chopra was the devoted wife Kashibai who lived for her family. Their happiness was her happiness and nothing else mattered. She was pained when she realised that another woman had entered her husband’s life. Her anger, pain and her sadness was all justified but the way she handles the matter makes her rise in honour.

Both actresses did an exceptional job in this film. Both Chopra and Padukone are extremely popular at this very time so it was a delight to see the two of them together in one film.

BizAsiaLive.com wishes Deepika Padukone a happy 32nd birthday.
