Birthday Love: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the gifted dancer

Many would identify her as the most beautiful woman in the world. Over the years, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has made a name for herself in the Indian film industry where she has done some remarkable work. Not only is she a talented actress but she is also an extraordinary dancer and, said to be trained in classical style, she has left many mesmerised with her skills and grace.

1st November sees Rai Bachchan turn 45 and, to mark this occasion, BizAsiaLive.com looks at six songs in which Bachchan steals the show with her dancing skills.

Thodasa Pagla from ‘Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya’ (1997)
It was her Bollywood debut and this song was her first appearance in the film. With this one song Bachchan won the hearts of everyone with her classical dancing skills, her style and of course her beauty. The song opens at a wedding function where a girl in a silver lehenga can be seen dancing at the centre, with other girls dancing beside her. Cleverly she hides her face only revealing her striking blue eyes. With the sounds of Asha Bhosle’s magical voice the audience awaits to see the star in the song. Finally the veil is uncovered and Bachchan appears as Aashi singing and dancing at her friends celebration. It will forever be a memorable song as Bachchan did a remarkable performance for her debut film.

Nimbooda Nimbooda from ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ (1999)
Another great hit that Bachchan would be remembered for, for years to come. Dressed in hues of blue Nandini (Bachchan) dances in a gathering where all her family, friends and guests are present. It is within this song where Vanraj (Ajay Devgn) sees Nandini for the very first time and falls for her charm. The music had a Rajasthani beat to it with Kavita Krishnamurthy singing for Bachchan, it was a musical number of a kind.

Bachchan dances effortlessly using classical steps with a certain playfulness added to her dance. Also the way she is able to change her emotions throughout the song showed that her character Nandini was happy, yet sad at the same time as she was remembering the one she loved.

Mera Dil Tera Deewana from ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalen’ (1999)
It was a sweet song that saw a girl expressing her feelings to the boy she loved. Pooja (Bachchan) realises that she really loves Rohan (Akshaye Khanna) but the only problem is that he is interested in a girl called Loveleen (Suman Ranganathan). Taking the advice of her well wishers she decides to tell Rohan how she feels by landing up at a beach where he and Loveleen are spending the day. There were many hilarious moments from Bachchan, with her lovable expressions and naughtiness this song saw the fun side to Bachchan. She definitely stole the show with this song.

Ishq Kameena from ‘Shakti: The Power’ (2002)
It was one of the first songs to see Bachchan in an item number and boy it was worth the wait. Jai Singh (Shah Rukh Khan)is a big fan of Bachchan in the film and is often seen taking her name. The song opens up with Jai Singh waking up from his sleep to be shocked by the appearance of Bachchan who begins to dance. It is only at the end of the song that he realises that it was all but a dream. Bachchan was seen in a totally different look from the modern city girl that she was often portrayed as. Alka Yagnik lent her vocals for Bachchan in this upbeat number.

Daiya Daiya Re from’ Dil Ka Rishta’ (2003)
Yagnik sang for Bachchan in which she can be seen performing for an audience on a large stage with a group of backing dancers. She appeared in many different costumes from western to traditional changing her dance steps to suit the nature of her attire. Bachchan matched each beat with no difficulty. It would be hard to imagine any other actress perform on this song because she did it with such style.

Crazy Kiya Re from ‘Dhoom 2’ (2006)
When the video for this song released many were trying to copy the dance steps that Bachchan had done with such perfection. She not only looked her best in this song she danced like never before on this modern beat. Sunidhi Chauhan sang with passion making the song more energetic with Bachchan’s performance entwined. Set in a club Sunehri (Bachchan) dances with a group of girls on stage in a way, shining and showing her confidence with attitude. Bachchan did total justice to the choreography, perhaps even better performing each and each step with such power. When watching the song one doesn’t even want to look away for a second such is the charm of Bachchan.

The team at BizAsiaLive.com wishes Aishwarya Rai Bachchan a very happy birthday!
