Birthday Love: Five soulful songs by Adnan Sami

The music industry has come a long way, where the path for musicians to strive on their own accord has only enhanced the types of genres people are now listening too. No longer can we associate music solely with films, and there’s no doubt in saying Adnan Sami is one big name that proved this possible very early on in his career. Having the voice that can make one’s heart skip, jump and melt with every word, Sami has always been a fan favourite.

As he celebrates his birthday, BizAsiaLive.com highlights five of his most soulful songs that make one feel the love, dance like nobody is watching and sing your heart out.

Kabhi To Nazar Milao – ‘Kabhi To Nazar Milao’ (2000)
Despite being two decades old, Sami’s collaboration with Asha Bhosle for the album ‘Kabhi To Nazar Milao’ is one that makes everyone’s heart melt. With a sense of nostalgia, this is one romantic number that always has everyone singing along. The combination of the piano, saxophone and tabla, it was a sound that had rarely been heard before, inspiring many others to follow similar compositions. Despite singing with one of India’s most famous and loved playback singers, Sami shined off his own accord and became an instant hit with listeners.

Tera Chehra – ‘Tera Chehra’ (2002)
Having worked on other projects, Sami shot to even more fame after he released ‘Tera Chehra’ as a second album, and it was the title track that got him noticed further than he had ever imagined. The introduction of the tune played with the soothing strums of the guitar before the big drop of the tabla, though simple still, makes widely impresses music lovers from across the board. The music video only enhanced the song’s popularity, where Rani Mukerji played his lady in red, elegantly swinging back and forth on a huge swing.  The sound of Sami’s soothing voice bellows in complete rhythm in the softest and smoothest way, giving it permission to be a part of a list of some of the most romantic songs of all time.

Noor E Khuda – ‘My Name is Khan’ (2010)
Where the film touched the hearts of its audiences across the world, Noor E Khuda was one song from Karan Johar’s ‘My Name is Khan’ that stayed in their minds from the get-go. With Sami joining Shankar Mahadevan and Shreya Ghoshal for this number, the song will always remain one that’s lyrics will bring a tear to one’s eye. Being a song that’s full of passion and heart, one can’t help but sing along with Sami and his co-singers. His voice compliments that of Mahadevan’s so well, it comes to a surprise that this is the only collaboration they have done.

Bhar Do Jholi Meri – ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ (2015)
As far as Qawaalis go, there is no doubt in saying Sami has the perfect voice for them and hard to believe he hasn’t done more. So it came as no surprise when he appeared in Salman Khan starrer ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ singing Bhar Do Jholi Meri. Here is a song that is all soul, heart and beat. Just by listening to the lyrics, the listener can tell the singer enjoyed singing it as much as they do listening, dancing and even singing along. It’s another song that proved there is very little Sami can’t do. Bringing a part of himself to the song, this is one tune that gets everyone up of their feet.

Tu Yaad Aya – ‘Tu Yaad Aya’ (2020)
When Sami announced his new single earlier this year, there was much anticipation on how it would live up to his memorable melodies of the past. However, the singer had nothing to fear, with viewing and listening numbers rapidly multiplying as soon as it released. Yet again Sami’s voice paired with the brilliant sound of strumming guitars, dribbling tablas and his famous piano notes, hits all the right emotions when listening to the lyrics. Romantic, harmonious and just as good if not better than those big numbers he is ever so well known for, Sami once again makes his listener, close their eyes and sway away to a wonderful melody.

BizAsiaLive.com wishes Adnan Sami, the soulful genius, a very happy birthday.
