There have been rumours aplenty this year that popular reality TV show ‘Bigg Boss’ could be switching channels but BizAsia understands that it will remain on Colors.

‘Bigg Boss’, which initially aired on Sony Entertainment Television Asia, moved to Colors after season one. It has been a lucrative show for the channel attracting consistent viewership each night it is broadcast.

A source said, “The show is quite expensive to make and getting the right sponsors to make the show viable, can be quite a risky proposition. With regulations in television becoming quite strict, broadcasting the show and moving existing programmes to other slots can sometimes have a negative impact.”

There have been reports that Life Ok is interested to snapping up the rights of the show. The channel is looking at launching a mega reality TV show to spruce up its ratings and compete with Colors directly – either launching its own reality show or acquiring an existing property like ‘Bigg Boss’. However, with ‘Bigg Boss’ likely to remain on Colors, it will be interesting to see what plans Life Ok has in store. Both channels are keeping tight-lipped.
