Big movie premieres in Channel 4 Bollywood season

Satellite Asian TV channels are always in the news for scooping mega movies, well, there’s even bigger news in store for Bollywood movie buffs. UK terrestrial TV Channel Four has announced its Bollywood movie line-up, which includes some of the greatest movies ever made in the history of Indian cinema.

The first, starting in August, celebrates the work of Shah Rukh Khan, one of Asia’s most successful actors. The season kicks off with a documentary, The Inner World of Shah Rukh Khan, which follows the daily life of the highest paid star in India.

Over a week, the refreshingly down-to-earth actor’s every move is tracked, mixed with his own account of his rise to stardom. The season of his films begins with Devdas, shown at the 2002 Cannes film festival, a re-make of one of India’s best-loved stories, with fabulous song and dance sequences.

This is followed by Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, a breakthrough Bollywood film thanks to its British locations and Chalte Chalte, a playful romance full of colour, song and dance.
