Sunny Kaushal’s upcoming film ‘Bhangra Paa Le’ has had somewhat of a setback after its cinema release was cancelled, for a release directly on digital platform, Netflix.
The film helmed by Ronnie Screwvala, was expected to release at cinemas on 1st November. It was then postponed to 8th November and then to 15th November. It has now emerged that the film will be available to Netflix subscribers on Thursday 14th November.
Screwvala recent slate of films have been hit and miss, with ‘Uri – The Surgical Strike’ emerging as one of the biggest surprise successes from the production house, RSVP. However, ‘Sonchiriya’ and ‘Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota’ bombed at the box office. ‘The Sky Is Pink’ despite starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas, received critical acclaim but failed to translate to commercial success.
A similar strategy was used by Dharma Productions for ‘Drive’, starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez. The film was released directly on Netflix last week after its theatrical release was cancelled.
