The Board of Control for Cricket in India has postponed the auction for Indian Premier League media rights to Monday 4th September.
The rights were expected to be announced on Monday 28th August but have been put back due to a pending court decision. The Economic Times reports that the Supreme Court had asked Vinod Rai, responsible for the BCCI’s court-appointed committee of administrators to report by 28th August on whether electronic auctions could be held for media rights.
While Sony Pictures Networks will be putting up an aggressive fight to retain the media rights, Star TV India and Discovery are also said to challenge the broadcaster for the rights. Bharti Airtel, BAM Tech, Yupp TV, DAZN/Perform Group and Yahoo have also shown interest, according to the report.
