BCCI defers decision on IPL 2020

With India confirming a further three-week lockdown extension, this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) remains uncertain.

A decision by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been deferred. A conference call meeting scheduled for Monday, did not take place.

Sportstar reports that a final call on the postponement of the IPL is expected to be take place imminently as executives were waiting for the official announcement by PM Narendra Modi on the lockdown extension.

One of the IPL franchise owners told the publication, “We have no idea when things will come back to normal again. So, it is too early to predict when will we have the IPL this year. The Board has told us that it’s looking into all the options and would let us know in due course of time.”

There is speculation that IPL 2020 could take place around September-October, before the T20 World Cup.
