The BBC is expected to be told to stop chasing ratings and provide a distinct service to its commercial rivals.

Furthermore, The Daily Telegraph reports that the corporation’s ethos to “inform, educate and entertain۝, will be re-written to make it a concise and impartial medium.

The BBC has come under the scanner recently for not being unique enough to commercial television and radio. It received criticism for buying popular US formats like ‘The Voice’.

In a further blow to the BBC, the government will give extra powers to Ofcom to regulate the output of the BBC. This will result in the BBC Trust being abolished.

The official announcement about changes to the BBC will be made in the White Paper tomorrow by John Whittingdale, the Culture Secretary.
