BBC Studios considering exit from India business due to market challenges

BBC Studios is reportedly considering exiting India due to ongoing market challenges, including industry consolidation and reduced content budgets from television broadcasters and OTT platforms.

According to The Economic Times India, the company is planning to wind down its production business in the country.

A source shared with the publication, “BBC Studios is facing challenges in the broader media and entertainment industry in India. OTT platforms and broadcasters have become increasingly selective about approving projects, while shrinking budgets are pressuring producers to maximize output.”

The BBC said it was “undertaking a review of our production operating model in India.”
