BBC News & BBC World Service to merge?

The BBC News and BBC World Service channels could be merged to save further money at the corporation.

According to MediaGuardian, the BBC executive board is urging the news team to merge the two channels, which would be available in the UK and overseas.

The BBC said several options were being considered but the situation was not like BBC3. The BBC will not be going online-only despite rumours over the past few weeks.

A decision is expected in July.
