BBC local radio presenters at risk of redundancy

A day after proposals were confirmed to streamline BBC local radio services, it has emerged that all presenters on each station are at risk of redundancy.

RadioToday reports that all audio teams at 39 stations were told about the news of potential redundancies affecting all presenters along with Band C Journalists, Content Producers and Band B Journalism Coordinators.

BizAsiaLive.com reported on Monday that Asian shows aired on Sunday nights are likely to face the axe. A national ‘all-England’ programme will air across the week at 22:00 and on Sunday afternoons and evenings.

A BBC spokesperson said, “We are committed to reflecting all communities in our output. We’ll confirm programmes for the new schedules in due course.”

In its proposals on Monday, the BBC said it was investing more in audio commissioning for community programmes in particular, so the voices and programmes our audiences love, and feel deeply connected to, will be available to a wider audience on BBC Sounds.
