BBC licence fee payers fall to 23.9 million in 2023/2024
Half a million households cancelled their licence fee last year as the BBC continues to face funding pressures and changes to audience viewing behaviours.
The loss of income from the licence fee has hit the BBC’s income at a time when its finances were already struggling owing to a decade of funding cuts and high inflation.
British households paying the £169.50 licence fee fell to 23.9 million compared to 24.4 million in 2022/23, a decline of £80 million year-on-year.
