BBC Asian Network’s ‘Breakfast’ hosts on-air school-leavers’ party

BBC Asian Network hosted the “biggest” on air leavers’ party for the hundreds of thousands of pupils around the country who will be leaving school this summer without a proper celebration.

This morning (Friday 3rd July) students joined Harpz Kaur, with huge celebrity surprises from names such as Arjun, Jaz Dhami, Mickey Singh and an extended Love Friday mix during the morning show.

With many leavers’ parties unable to take place this year, Harpz put together a celebration to remember for school leavers around the country, including Jhalak from West Sussex who was helping to organise her school prom before it was cancelled.

Harpz Kaur, “I remember how excited I was counting down the days to my Prom and saying bye to my friends and teachers at school. Due to lockdown – it’s been so hard for students in that position, who right now would have been excited to wear that dress, or get a fresh fade! So I decided, an on air party would do the job for now. There’s no excuse to not party from home right? That’s why I arranged some BIG guests, familiar voices and lots of fun and games for them to enjoy and of course – the music’s sorted too!”

Harpz followed Jhalak live on air while she got ready for her leavers’ party in style. She first got make up tips from celebrity YouTuber Kaushal and then got a pizza delivered (as you can’t go to a party on an empty stomach!) Later in the show Jhalak and other school leavers continued getting ready with well wishes from loads of celebrity guests and a half hour School Leavers Love Friday mix special. Finally Kan D Man & DJ Limelight curated a School Leavers After Party playlist and ended the celebration by sharing messages from parents, teachers and friends who gave the school leavers the send-off they deserve!
