BBC Asian Network presenter SMASHBengali under fire for “offensive” post about India
BBC Asian Network presenter SMASHBengali has sparked controversy after posting a video on social deemed racially offensive towards India.
The Birmingham-born host, known for his comedy and light-hearted entertainment, presents the Weekend Breakfast show on the BBC Asian Network. He also had an early Breakfast stint on BBC Radio 1.
The video, which was posted on SMASHBengali’s Instagram was removed on Monday, shows him conducting a vox pop interview at the Halal Food Festival. In the clip, SMASHBengali sings “Dil Dil Pakistan” before asking a festival attendee, “What do you think of India?” The interviewee responds, “If they are good with us, then we are good with them. We love you too. But if you see with bad eyes, we’ll take the eyeballs out and chew right in front of you.” Then SMASHBengali was seen what can be described as “spitting” with a “thu” sound.
We have removed the video due to a counter claim made by SMASHBengali.
