BBC Asian Network presenter arrested

BBC Asian Network lunchtime presenter Anjum Rafiq was arrested today in connection with a police investigation into the alleged sale of stolen goods over the internet.

Anjum Rafiq, 32, was detained in a dawn raid at his home in Solihull, West Midlands, with his 29-year-old wife, Wahida.

Rafiq, whose show goes out between midday and 2pm on weekdays, was being questioned on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

The raid, which also saw officers take away a number of items from the house on Warwick Road, followed the seizure of ?300,000 of computer and office equipment in two separate raids.

Detective Inspector Mark Evans, from West Midlands Police, said one haul recovered 88 laptops, 54 tower units, eight plasma screens, 28 flat screen monitors plus a selection of other high-tech office equipment.

It is thought the items were stolen in a series of burglaries covering NHS health authorities, schools and other businesses throughout the West Midlands.
