BBC Asian Network launches vote for 00s Bollywood song

The BBC Asian Network has today launched its search for the nation’s favorite Bollywood song from the 2000s.

This follows the network’s earlier success in naming “Tujhe Dekha To” from ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ as the Ultimate 90s Bollywood Song. Listeners are invited to cast their votes and help decide the Ultimate 00s Bollywood Song. The initiative celebrates the vibrant music of the 2000s and aims to engage Bollywood fans across the UK in selecting their top hit from the decade.

Announced this morning on Asian Network Breakfast, voting opened at 8am and will close after eleven days (Friday 20 September, 2pm) – offering listeners up to five votes to participate online.

Listeners can tune in to a special live countdown show from 7am on Friday 4th October 2024 on Asian Network and BBC Sounds where Asian Network DJs will be joined by special guests and the industry expert panellists and the winner of the Ultimate 00s Bollywood Song will be revealed.

Nikita Kanda says: “I’m so excited to do another Bollywood vote! The fact that this time is all about the noughties is right up my street. I grew up on 00s Bollywood. I would spend most weekends watching these movies with my family and dancing along to the music. It was a fresh era for Bollywood and broke boundaries on all fronts, the actors, the characters, storylines, fashion and style. 00s Bollywood made its mark. It’s loud and unapologetic and I can’t wait to see what the listeners crown as number one.”
