B R Films has been sued for Rs 20 crore by Viacom 18 for failing to hold up their bargain of an agreement. The case was file on Monday 7th April 2014 in Bombay High Court.

Viacom 18 had paid Rs 10 crore to B R Films in 2007 to make two films for them which never went into production. The two parties have since drafted a mutual agreement that Viacom 18 would be entitled to a certain stake in B R films in the future to compensate for of their arrangement.

B R Films’ latest, Bhootnath Returns۪ starring Amitabh Bachchan and Boman Irani hits theatres this Friday. When Viacom 18 reminded B R Films about their agreement, Ravi Chopra’s company refused to honour it.

This sent Viacom into disparity. A source close to the film ‘Bhootnath Returns’ revealed, “Viacom tried to sort out the matter amicably. But B R Films was in no mood to listen which left Viacom 18 no other option but to take the legal route. They are seeking double the amount that they were initially entitled to, including interest.”

The Mumbai Mirror stated the legal firm, Naik Naik & Co, who represents Viacom 18, Ravi Chopra’s son, Abhay Chopra and Viacom 18 remained unavailable for comment.
