Ayushmann Khurrana on singing for himself in films

Ayushmann Khurrana

It’s becoming a popular trend in Bollywood films where the actor would sing their own songs in the film.Ayushmann Khurrana is one these actors who took to the microphone with his hit ‘Pani Da Rang’ for ‘Vicky Donor’ (2012).

Khurrana tells Hindustan Times that it’s a welcome change,ʉI never thought it would become such a huge trend when I sang Pani da۪ for Vicky Donor. But it was a welcome change. If you are singing for your own on-screen character, it feels more credible. Lip-syncing is a very Indian trend. No one does it in the west.”

Though Khurrana states he is an actor first then singer. He says, Singing is a parallel vector for me. I am not just a singer, as I compose and write my songs too. So, there۪s a whole new dimension.۝

Other actors who have showcasedtheir singingtalent are Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha and Shraddha Kapoor. Khurrana says It is a great PR plug too. This attracts more fans.۝ The ‘Hawaizaada’ (2015) actor has recently been touring in eight states in America, where he performed to packed out auditoriums,ʉSinging in a studio and on stage are very different experiences. My eight-city US tour was a successful one with packed auditoriums,۝ adding that he feltʉlike a rock star there.۝

Khurrana feels that Indians abroad like having an Indian connection, and find this through the medium of cricket or cinema.ʉMy performance was surprising for many. I have a different personality on stage. It is not subtle. I performed rock versions of some ۪90s songs. I created rock and dhol versions of Pani da۪ as well.۝
