Ayushmann Khurrana apologises over same-sex marriage comment

Ayushmann Khurrana has been forced to apologise about a comment he made about same-sex marriages in India. The actor, who is promoting the release of his next film ‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan’, sees him play a gay character.

In the actor’s statement, Khurrana had said that same-sex marriage was legal in India, which resulted in disgruntled fans expressing their anger at the star. He said, “We are really proud that we are supporting the community. Our country is very progressive that it legalized same-sex marriages.”

Khurrana apologised on Twitter, saying “A genuine slip here though I really wish same-sex marriages get legal in India.”

While homosexuality was decriminalized in India in 2018, same-sex marriage remains illegal.

‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan’ releases on 21st February 2020.
