Axe falls on Sony TV soap – ‘Amber Dhara’

Sony Entertainment Television Asia has axed another one of its underperforming soaps.

Sanjay Upadhyay, Creative director, SET India, confirms the development and he reveals that since the TRPs never picked up, the channel has decided to give ‘Amber Dhara’ a last period.

“We had earlier asked the creative team to restructure the plot. We can’t wait indefinitely for it to pick up, and now have decided to discontinue the show.” Upadhyay asserts.

Recently, there were reports of how the producers of the show had taken control of the creative input, the channel has had no say in the content for quite a while now.

The producer for the conjoined twins’ saga, Vikas Seth, meanwhile, claims ignorance about the recent developments. But actor Ali Merchant doesn’t sound surprised at the news. “Some of the tracks were stretched beyond necessary,” he says.

Will the twins be separated by surgery? Upadhyay maintains a no comments stance saying, “It’s entirely up to the creatives. We have never interfered.”

Recently, Smriti Z Irani’s soap ‘Viruddh’ was taken off the air due to poor ratings.
