ATN Global signs strategic deal with Sahara

Looks like the stiff competition from big guns ZEE, STAR and Sony is making ATN Global toughen up with a huge tie-up with Indian broadcaster Sahara One.

ATN Global, which has been airing free since its launch a few years ago will most certainly give its rivals a run for their money when it begins broadcasting Sahara One shows and movies from November.

In a conversation with ATN’s executive today, he told Biz Asia exclusively that a slew of new shows from the Sahara camp will change the look and feel of the channel.

Starting from the end of October, ATN Global will telecast three of Sahara One’s most popular shows such as Malini Iyer, which saw the TV debut of Bollywood favourite Sridevi. Also as part of the line-up, the much talked about Karishma-The Miracles Of Destiny starring Karisma Kapoor and numerous other Bollywood stars. Hema Malini’s new drama in which she plays a double role-Kamini Damini will also see its UK presence in November.

Malini Iyer (104 episodes)
Starts 31st October, 2005 Mon – Tue at 21:30
Karishma (264 episodes)
Starts 31st October, 2005 Mon – Thur at 21:00
Kamini Damini (52 episodes)
Starts 2nd November, 2005 Wed – Thur at 9.30 pm

The channel is also finalising details of telecasting more shows and a signing of over 60 films owned by Sahara One. As usual, more details will be disclosed first here, so check back soon for updates on this story. The radical change of the channel is due to changes at the top in management level at ATN Global. These Serials from Sahara have been signed by Mr Vijay Pal Soni, Director of Euroasia TV & Cable Network Limited. Euroasia has taken over management control of the channel from 1st September 2005 and is responsible for the complete management of ATN Global.

Readers may also recall that previously ATN Global lent airtime to Channel S before it launched on its own EPG. Could a similar strategy be used here before the full official launch of Sahara One? Only time will tell.
