ATN Bangla breaches sponsorship broadcast rules

Bengali entertainment channel ATN Bangla has been found in breach over sponsorship rules.

The channel was guilty of rules 9.9, 9.10 and 9.14 in which it broadcasted programmes promoting a travel company.

ATN Bangla told Ofcom: “If you carefully consider the content of the programme on 17 May, it would become clear that the ATN Bangla UK did not promote the sponsor of this particular programme. Rather, we invited a cross section of people to talk about their experiences and desire in relation to the Holy Hajj tour in general. However, one of the guests expressed that he was “happy” with the service being offered by Bismillah Hajj and Umrah Services.”

Media regulator Ofcom said that this was the second case this year involving programming promoting on the channel.
