Athiya Shetty refuses to endorse fairness creams

The subject of fairness and fairness creams are not new to Bollywood. Many celebrities have come forth and refused to partake in fairness campaigns or endorsements. ‘Hero’ (2015) star Athiya Shetty is the latest celebrity to voice her opinion on the same, refusing to endorse fairness products, as it is something she does not believe in.

As according to Times of India, Shetty said, “Yes, all of us go through that awkward phase where we don’t feel beautiful, but even then, it had nothing to do with my skin tone. If you check, some of the most beautiful women in the world are not fair skinned. It’s so superficial to  judge beauty like that. I think irrespective of color, everyone is beautiful. There is a certain partiality in our society towards fair people, which brands thrive on. I understand that they’re only trying to do their job, but I refuse to endorse something that I firmly don’t believe in.”

Meanwhile, Shetty is a brand ambassador for the beauty brand ‘Maybelline New York’, and was last seen alongside Arjun Kapoor in ‘Mubarakan’ (2017).
