Asian Star ready for official Monday launch

Asian Star, a new community radio station founded by media personalities Ray C and Pritam Chaggar is set for a launch in Slough on Monday 5th March.

The station will broadcast 24 hours a day on 101.6FM in the region and also on the worldwide web via its website.

Ray C, whose real name is Ray Siddique has been on BBC and commercial radio for over 15 years. Ray has had a long association with Slough. He has successfully organised the Slough Mela for the past five consecutive years. He now wishes to solely concentrate on his new radio project.

Pritam Chaggar, on the other hand, has been successfully broadcasting for 50 years. Together with his wife Tochi, they have been dubbed the Asian ‘Richard and Judy’ of radio.

Asian Star will be based on The Centre Farnham Road in Slough. The station will also receive support from Cheryl Coppell, CEO of Slough Borough Council.

Asian Star is a non-profit organisation and will serve the community information and entertainment shows. The station will also make available training classes for new and upcoming broadcasters and broadcast journalists. It has engaged with Creative Partnerships to penetrate with local schools and children.

At launch, the station will broadcast its Breakfast show with Ray C from 06:00. Asian Star will also offer the very latest news, sport and travel throughout the day from 06:00 – 19:00. A community hour will also air daily at 14:00. For children, a special show called ‘School Squad’ will air Saturday mornings at 10:00. This programme will be fronted by Pedro and the show will let youngsters talk about school issues.
