Asian media celebrate Vaisakhi 2006
Vaisakhi is one of the most important date’s on the Sikh calendar and Biz Asiabrings you a run down on what Asian broadcasters will be doing on the special day.
Alpha ETC Punjabi
ZEE Network’s Alpha ETC Punjabi channel has lined up a handful of special religious shows to mark Vaisakhi. With a four religious offing in the morning called Gurbani Sagar. A musical show called Datti Nu Lawade Ghungroo featuring the biggest Punjabi stars will air on Friday at 13:30. A concert dubbed as the biggest Punjabi music show called Vaisakhi Blast will air on Friday at 19:30. Performers include Malkit Singh and Sukhwinder Singh.
BBC Asian Network
BBC Asian Network will celebrate Vaisakhi in Southall, Mehfil Restaurant this Friday (14th April), with BBC Asian Network reporter Harmit Singh broadcasting live from the area. To mark the festival the station will offer the Southall community performances from British Asian group Mentor Kolective and singer Ms Scandalous.
The Vaisakhi festival will be marked across the stations output on Friday 14th April, with live inserts from reporters in London, Glasgow and Cardiff and there will be a Vaisakhi special on The Punjabi show with Neelu Kalsi (Friday 14th April) between 1930 ��� 2200. The show will offer an exclusive live performance with one of India’s biggest Bhangra star Harbhajan Mann who will perform live from BBC Asian Network studios in Birmingham, Mailbox. The show will later take live input from the Golden Temple in India, Amritsar, offering a global view of the festival.
Club Asia
Club Asia is featuring the importance of this festival in news and Bali will be covering it further in No Holds Barred. Music throughout the day will reflect the day�۪s celebration. On Club Asia�۪s website there will be a feature on Vaisakhi. San-j-Sanj in central (10am-2pm) will have a special Vaisakhi top-ten-at-ten and will also be taking shouts out from listeners between 11-12noon. There�۪s also the opportunity to win three, 3-course family meals at three restaurants.
Sabras Radio
The Midlands Sabras Radio will be airing special Vaisakhi feature capsules throughout the day with messages from community leaders about the meaning behind the auspicious day.
Sony Entertainment Television Asia/Sunrise Radio
Sony TV and Sunrise Radio are teaming up for this year’s Vaisakhi On The Square roadshow at Trafalgar Square later this month. So expect to see highlights of the event in coming days on the channel with the live coverage on Sunrise Radio on 30th April.
ZEE Cinema
ZEE Cinema has lined up the movie premiere of Jo Bole So Nihaal starring Sunny Deol in the lead. The film will be shown on Friday at 20:00.
